About Us

Thank you for visiting the Fat Quarter Shop and having an interest in learning a little more about us!

The Fat Quarter Shop was founded in 2003 by Kimberly Jolly. An avid quilter, Kimberly began her shop as a side business while still working a corporate position, cutting, packing and shipping right out of her house during evenings and weekends. From the very beginning, she was committed to delivering top-notch service for every single order and customer. As the Fat Quarter Shop's reputation grew, Kimberly decided to make it a full-time operation. Her husband Kevin joined her not long after, and with his help, lots of hard work, and a tireless commitment, the store began to grow. Over the past few years a few more people have joined the staff!

As a team, we continue to branch out with the best fabrics, exclusive kits, quilt clubs, BOMs, and more. And we will always be driven by the passion that Kimberly founded the store upon, which is always giving you the best products and service!

Kimberly Jolly, Owner

Where are you from?
Austin, Texas.

In your own words, what do you do at Fat Quarter Shop?
I am in charge of buying and ordering our fabric and other merchandise, creating and executing new BOMs, clubs and kits, finding new patterns and designers, and coordinating the multitude of daily tasks that keep the shop running as smoothly as possible. I also handle the overall accounting of the shop; after all, that used to be my corporate life. And I'm always looking for new things we can do.

How long have you been a quilter?
12 years

Describe yourself in about three words.
Detail-oriented, hard-working, and serious

What do you like to do in your free time?
I cross stitch, quilt, crochet, and play with my daughter Emma and sons Will, Peyton and Christopher.

What’s your favorite TV show or movie right now?
I haven't seen a movie in at least 12 years. My favorite TV shows are Parking Wars, The First 48, Storage Wars and Duck Dynasty (Yes I watch a lot of A&E).

What’s been your favorite place to visit, or where would you like to go someday?
Las Vegas, Nevada

What’s your favorite thing about Fat Quarter Shop?
I love planning new BOMs, quilt kits and working with our It's Sew Emma pattern line. And I love being self-employed so I can be flexible with my hours and spend more time with Emma, Will, Peyton and Christopher.

If you could choose a super power, what would it be?
I would love to be able to say "Ta-da!" and have a sewing project be finished!

We’re always trying to do new stuff and coming up with new ideas. If we come up with something really good, most of the time we just do it immediately. It’s great to go from an idea to actually creating or presenting something and seeing the response. A lot of our best ideas, whether they are kits, products or promotions, have gone from idea to reality in just a day or two.

If you could choose a super power, what would it be?
I’d like to be able to fly because then I could do everything faster and maybe be able to get a few more things done that I never seem to get to.
