Cutting Instructions:

Animal Panel Squares:
  • Cut 12 5 3/4" squares, from the Brown Bear, Brown Bear quilt panel. (fussy cut by centering fabric)
Purple Paint Block Borders & Binding:
  • Cut 16 2" x 5 3/4" rectangles
  • Cut 16 2" squares
  • Cut 6 2 1/2" x WOF strips (for purple binding)
Orange Paint Block Borders:
  • Cut 16 2" x 5 3/4" rectangles
  • Cut 16 2" squares
Brown Paint Block Borders:
  • Cut 16 2" x 5 3/4" rectangles
  • Cut 16 2" squares
Multicolored Stripe Sashing:
  • Cut 2 2 1/2" x WOF strips.
  • Subcut into 8 – 2 1/2" x 8 3/4" rectangles
Multicolored Stripe First Border:
  • Cut 8 2 1/2" x WOF strips
  • For top/bottom border, subcut 5 strips into 5 – 2 1/2" x 29 1/4" strips
  • For left/right border, sew 3 strips together end to end, then subcut into 2 – 2 1/2" x 43 1/2" strips
White on White Tonal Second Border:
  • Cut 4 1 3/4" x WOF strips
  • Sew 4 strips together end to end
  • For left/right border, subcut into 2 – 1 3/4" x 43 1/2" strips
  • For top/bottom border, subcut into 2 – 1 3/4" x 35 3/4" strips
Children All Over Final Border:
  • Cutting instructions on page 6 of the printable pattern PDF.

Assembly Instructions:

Step A: Purple & Orange Block (make 4 Blocks):

Sew 2 Purple Fabric (B) rectangles to opposite sides of a Panel Fabric (A) square. Press seams toward Purple Fabric (B).
Sew 2 Orange Fabric (F) squares to opposite sides of two Purple Fabric (B) rectangles. Press seams toward Purple Fabric (B).
Sew the units together as shown. Press toward the Purple/Panel Fabric units. Make 4.
Finished block should measure 8 3/4" x 8 3/4" square.

Step B: Orange & Brown Block (make 4 blocks):

Repeat Step A above using Orange Fabric (E) rectangles and Brown Fabric (H) squares. Make 4.

Step C: Brown & Purple Block (make 4 blocks):

Repeat Step A above using Brown Fabric (G) rectangles and Purple Fabric (C) squares. Make 4.

Step D: First Row & Sashing

With a Purple/Orange Block unit, a Brown/Purple Block unit, and a Orange/Brown Block unit, assemble the first row of blocks as shown, inserting 2 Multicolored Stripe Fabric (I) rectangles between the 3 blocks.

Pay close attention to the direction and placement of the blocks.

Sew together and press toward the Multicolored Stripe Fabric (I).

Step E: Second/Third/Fourth Row & Sashing

Repeat Step C for the second, third, and fourth rows, assembling the blocks as shown below. Pay close attention to the direction and placement of the blocks.

Sew together and press toward the Multicolored Stripe Fabric (I).

Step F: First Border

Layout the rows and 5 Multicolored Stripe Fabric (J) strips as shown below. Sew together, pressing toward the Multicolored Stripe Fabric. Pay close attention to the direction and placement of each row.

Attach 2 Multicolored Stripe Fabric (K) strips on either side of the quilt center, pressing toward the Multicolored Stripe Fabric (K).

Step G: Second Border

Sew 2 White Tonal Fabric (L) strips to the sides of the quilt. Press toward White Tonal Fabric (L).

Sew 2 White Tonal Fabric (M) strips to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press toward White Tonal Fabric (M).

Step HFinal Border

Cut the Children All Over Fabric according to the diagram below. Pay close attention to the direction of the print.
First cut 3 – 5" x WOF strips as shown. These will be for the top/bottom borders (O).
Then cut 2 – 5" x 46" strips across the length of the fabric as shown. These are the left/right borders (N).

Piece the 3 – 5" x WOF strips together end to end and subcut into 2 – 5" x 44 3/4" for the top/bottom borders (O).

Sew 2 Children All Over Fabric (N) rectangles to the sides of the quilt. Pay close attention to the direction of the print. Press toward the Children All Over Fabric (N).

Sew 2 Children All Over Fabric (O) rectangles to the sides of the quilt. Pay close attention to the direction of the print. Press toward the Children All Over Fabric (O).

Quilt and bind as desired.
