Batiks originated in Indonesia. Traditional hand-dyed batik print fabrics are made in a dots-and-lines pattern using a tool known as a tjanting and with a copper stamp called a cap. Today's batik quilting fabrics are made with paint brushes. The design is drawn on the fabric using wax, and then the fabric is dyed the desired color. For more intricate designs, this process may be repeated.
They may be based in California, but at Hoffman, international distribution is a way of life. Hoffman Fabrics has a partnership with wholesale distributors based in nations like Japan, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, Germany and Canada.
