Quilting Templates, Sets & Stencils

If you're a beginner, you may still need to acquire the tools to use with your acrylic quilting templates. Before you go any further, make sure you have the following:

• Rotary Cutters: A 45mm rotary cutter will work for most tasks – but if you plan on cutting out a lot of circles or small pieces, consider adding a 28mm rotary cutter to your sewing kit. The smaller rotary cutter handles curves better to make your task that much easier.
• Cutting Mats: You need a cutting mat to protect your work surface. Self-healing cutting mats are the best because they hold up longer.
• Rulers: Templates for quilting designs are helpful, but you'll also need square rulers to cut quilt blocks and a straight ruler to cut strips and borders.
• Scissors: Some stitchers aren't comfortable using a rotary cutter with their quilting templates. If you prefer, you can run tailor's chalk around the edge of your template to create an outline on your fabric, then cut the shape out of the material using scissors. Keep in mind, however, that you might not get as clean a cut using this method.
