Milk Dot:

  • Ten 8 ½” x 8 ½” squares (A)
  • Four 16 ½” x 16 ½” squares (B)

Light Red Solid:

  • Ten 2 ½” x 2 ½” squares (C)

Milk Schoolhouse Check:

  • Four 2 ½” x 16 ½” rectangles (D)

Buttercup Words:

  • Two 2 ½” x 2 ½” squares (E1)
  • Two 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles (E2)
  • Four 2 ½” x 16 ½” rectangles (E3)

Grass Schoolhouse Check:

  • Two 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles (F1)
  • Two 2 ½” x 6 ½” rectangles (F2)
  • Four 2 ½” x 16 ½” rectangles (F3)

Light Red Playtime Floral:

  • Two 2 ½” x 6 ½” rectangles (G1)

  • Seven 4½” x WOF strips (P)

Assembly Instructions:

Center Quarter-Square Log Cabin Blocks:

Assemble a quarter-log cabin block as shown.
Block should measure 8 ½” x 8 ½”.
Repeat one more time.
Make two. 

Sew a quarter-square long cabin block and one 8 ½” x 8 ½” Fabric A square together as shown. Pay close attention to placement of fabrics.
Unit should measure 8 ½” x 16 ½”.
Repeat one more time.
Make two.

Sew the rows together as shown.
Unit should measure 16 ½” x 16 ½”.
Make one.

Outer Quarter-Square Log Cabin Blocks:

Assemble a quarter-log cabin block as shown.
Block should measure 8 ½” x 8 ½”.
Repeat seven more times.
Make Eight.

Sew a quarter-square log cabin block and one 8 ½” x 8 ½” Fabric A square together as shown. Pay close attention to placement of fabrics.
Unit should measure 8 ½” x 16 ½”.
Repeat seven more times.
Make Eight.

Sew the rows together as shown.
Unit should measure 16 ½” x 16 ½”.
Repeat three more times.
Make four.

Half-Square Strip Blocks:

Sew eight 2 ½” x 16 ½” rectangles together as shown.
Strip blocks should measure 16 ½” x 16 ½”.
Make four.

Please note this contruction differs from a traditional half-square triangle.

    • Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 16 ½” x 16 ½” Fabric B squares.
    • With right sides facing, layer a 16 ½” x 16 ½” Fabric B square on top of a strip block, with strips turned vertically and Fabric D on the left side. The marked line should start at the top left corner. Pay close attention to the direction of the strips and marked line.
    • Stitch on the marked line.
    • Cut apart ¼” to the right of the marked line as shown.
    • The half-square strip block shown should measure 16 ½” x 16 ½”.
    • Repeat one more time.
    • You will only use the two blocks that march the diagram below.

    • You will only use the two blocks that march the diagram below.

Quilt Center Assembly:
    • Assemble rows as shown. Pay close attention to the placement and direction of all blocks.
      Quilt center should measure 48 ½” x 48 ½”.

Inner Border:
  • Sew six Fabric O strips together end to end, piecing diagonally.
  • Subcut Fabric O into two 1 ½” x 48 ½” strips for the side borders.
    Subcut Fabric O into two 1 ½” x 50 ½” strips for the top and bottom borders.
  • Sew the Fabric O side borders to the sides of the quilt. Press toward border.
  • Sew the Fabric O top and bottom borders to the top and bottom of the quilt.
    Press toward border.
Outer Border:
    • Sew seven Fabric P strips together end to end, piecing diagonally.
    • Subcut Fabric P into two 4 ½” x 50 ½” strips for the side borders.
      Subcut Fabric P into two 4 ½” x 58 ½” strips for the top and bottom borders.
    • Sew the Fabric P side borders to the sides of the quilt. Press toward border.
    • Sew the Fabric P top and bottom borders to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press toward border.

Finishing:
  • Quilt and bind as desired.
